About Dawn
I am a multi-disciplinary creative (actor, director, writer, singer) with eclectic tastes and an insatiable appetite for learning, likely due to my neurodivergent brain (ADHD). Pairing my acting studies with psychology and business undergraduate work, I later obtained dual law degrees (Bachelors and Masters). I spent several years working as a lawyer and in oil and gas land management while simultaneously acting in stage, film, television, and voiceover.
I began focusing on audiobook narration in 2011 and have since become an Audie Award nominee and the recipient of several Earphone and SOVAS awards. I enjoy narrating

both fiction and non-fiction titles and have been blessed to narrate works by some of North America’s finest authors including Helen Gurley Brown, Saul Bellow, Lucia Berlin, Meg Wolitzer, Riley Sager, Judy Blume, and Margaret Atwood.
My insatiable appetite for learning serves me well in my work while my business and educational history complements, informs, and adds depth to my audiobook performances. This background has also made me adept at understanding and interpreting the most difficult of texts and terminology, to the benefit of my listeners.
Generally sporting a standard American accent, my work includes a multitude of international and regionally accented characters. I am facile with accent work, continually growing my arsenal of skills, and have performed 1st-person fiction narrations using accents from Brooklyn, Germany, and Poland.
In my fiction work, my goal is always to bring the characters and their stories to vibrant life on the big screen of my listeners’ minds. I love language, storytelling, accent work, and developing characters, from the shyest of humans to the wildest creatures imaginable. Being drawn to beautiful narratives, literary fiction holds a special place in my heart. My other fiction favorites include mystery and thrillers, science fiction, historical fiction, and stories about women of a certain age, while humor feeds my soul.
I strive to channel the author’s voice and passion when narrating non-fiction titles. I am personally passionate about law, social justice and politics, particularly issues of feminism, racism, all matters of social justice, crime and American politics. My favorite NF genres include memoir, law, social justice, psychology, true crime, politics and history.
I have been teaching audiobook narration since 2014 and am Vice-Chair of PANA (the Professional Audiobook Narrators Association). Additionally, I began directing in 2019 and have directed 9 titles to date (both fiction and non-fiction).
I have three adult children and live in the Vancouver area of British Columbia with my rescue dog, Dani, who is reputed to be the best dog in the world. I am happiest anywhere palm trees grow!
